Renowned Nigerian human rights lawyer, Rommy Mom, has been confirmed as a panelist at the upcoming Papyrus Global Mayors Conference and Awards 2026, scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria.
The conference is expected to attract participants from over 20 African countries, including Ghana, and will focus on strengthening local governance systems and promoting sustainable development across communities on the continent.
Themed “Strengthening Local Governance for Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable African Communities,” the event will bring together mayors, policymakers, and business leaders to deliberate on governance, security, and economic development challenges in Africa.
Dr. Mom, President of Lawyers Alert, will speak on “Community Policing & Sustainable Partnerships,” a topic widely regarded as crucial for countries working to improve trust between citizens and security institutions.
Over the years, he has contributed to strengthening collaboration between communities and law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, working closely with institutions such as the Police Service Commission to promote accountability and effective policing systems.
For Ghana, the discussions at PAGMACA 2026 come at a time when issues of decentralisation, community engagement, and public trust in security agencies continue to shape national conversations.
Security analysts say Ghana can benefit from lessons shared at the conference, particularly in adopting community-based approaches that strengthen cooperation between local authorities and residents.
A governance analyst in Accra noted that “community policing remains one of the most effective ways to build trust and improve intelligence gathering at the local level. Platforms like this allow countries like Ghana to learn from regional experiences and adapt best practices.”
Organisers of the event say Dr. Mom’s selection reflects his strong grassroots experience and ability to bridge legal frameworks with real-world security challenges.
Managing Director of The Papyrus Global, Doofan Damsa-Justin, noted that Africa needs practical solutions driven by collaboration.
According to the Director, “sustainable security can only be achieved through trust, inclusion, and structured partnerships between citizens and institutions.”
The conference will also host over 30 mayors and local business executives, alongside senior government officials responsible for foreign affairs, trade, and intergovernmental relations.
Participants are expected to engage in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening governance systems, promoting peace, and enhancing stability across African communities.
PAGMACA 2026 is expected to serve as a strategic platform for dialogue, collaboration, and policy innovation, with outcomes focused on driving inclusive development and reinforcing community resilience.
For Ghana and other participating countries, the conference presents an opportunity to align strategies, share knowledge, and explore sustainable approaches to governance and security.
