Ghanaian actor Wayoosi has praised President John Mahama for fulfilling his promise to scrap several controversial taxes, including the electronic transaction levy (e-Levy), betting tax, and emission tax.

In a video shared on social media, Wayoosi expressed his excitement and commended Mahama for keeping his word.

"You have brought me immense joy. The things you promised to remove, like the e-Levy, betting tax, and COVID-19 levy—you have fulfilled them. Papa [Mahama], God bless you! You are truly an honest person who keeps your word. May God help your administration to live up to expectations," he said.

His comments followed the announcement by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during the presentation of the 2025 Budget in Parliament on March 11. The decision to remove these taxes has been widely welcomed, particularly by young people and small business owners who viewed them as a financial burden.

Traders in Kumasi also lauded the move, highlighting that the high cost of doing business had worsened under the previous administration’s tax policies.

Dr. Forson emphasized that these tax cuts aim to ease financial pressure on citizens and businesses while helping to stabilize the economy. The budget also includes plans to abolish VAT on motor vehicle insurance and the COVID-19 levy, providing further economic relief.
