Former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu Boahene, has maintained his innocence despite facing allegations of embezzling $7 million in state funds.
At his latest court hearing on Friday, March 28, his bail was reduced from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million following a legal challenge by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea.
Adu Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, are accused of:
✅ Diverting funds meant for a cyber defense system.
✅ Laundering money through real estate transactions.
✅ Attempting to destroy evidence by moving large sums of money into suitcases, according to prosecutors.
Court Proceedings & Bail Conditions
🔹 Adu Boahene was arrested at Kotoka International Airport upon returning from London.
🔹 His wife’s bail remains at GH¢80 million, with two sureties.
🔹 Both must report to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) three times a week.
🔹 They cannot travel without EOCO’s permission.
While the Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, insists on a strong case, Adu Boahene told reporters, “I have not been charged with anything yet.”
Prosecution Concerns
🔸 Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem Sai opposed the bail reduction, arguing that the couple posed a flight risk due to possible dual citizenship.
The case is still ongoing, with further investigations underway.
