The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has ordered the immediate closure of a mobile mini restaurant operating with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the Total Filling Station on Oxford Street, Osu, Accra.
This decisive action follows the emergence of a viral video on social media, which captured the food vendor using open flames dangerously close to fuel pumps—posing a significant fire hazard and violating critical safety regulations.
Fuel stations are designated as high-risk zones due to the storage of highly flammable substances. According to the GNFS, any activity involving open flames, LPG, or spark-generating devices in such areas is strictly prohibited and punishable under Ghanaian law.
Acting Chief Fire Officer, DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong, has since ordered intensified nationwide inspections at fuel and gas stations.
She emphasized that individuals or businesses flouting safety protocols will face stringent legal consequences.
“The GNFS remains committed to working collaboratively with fuel and gas station operators to ensure full compliance with safety standards,” the statement read.
