Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced plans to reintroduce road tolls this year using a technology-driven system aimed at optimizing revenue generation and minimizing traffic congestion.
Speaking during the presentation of the 2025 budget, Dr. Forson emphasized that this modernized toll collection method would ensure efficient revenue mobilization for road maintenance and economic recovery efforts.
“The government will reintroduce the road toll, driven by technology. This approach will generate more revenue for road maintenance and related services,” he stated.
As part of broader efforts to stabilize the economy, Dr. Forson also announced an adjustment to the Growth and Sustainability Levy, reinforcing the government's commitment to economic recovery.
“We are making adjustments to the Growth and Sustainability Levy to reinforce economic stability,” he noted.
To support the recapitalization of key financial institutions, he disclosed that approximately GH¢2.2 billion would be required to fully recapitalize the National Investment Bank (NIB) and the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).
The reintroduction of tolls is expected to be implemented with an advanced system designed to reduce delays and inefficiencies, ensuring smoother traffic flow while boosting government revenue.
