Nalerigu, April 18, 2025 — The Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, has called on the Government of Ghana to take urgent and decisive action to address the worsening security situation along the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Poulimakom corridor.

In a strongly-worded statement delivered on his behalf at a press conference, the Overlord warned that while Mamprugu remains a realm of peace and honour, the escalating conflict in Bawku poses a serious threat to regional stability.

“The deteriorating situation in Bawku threatens the peace we have built over generations. We can no longer afford to watch in silence,” the statement read.

Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga stressed the need for swift intervention to protect lives, restore calm, and preserve the economic and social integrity of the northern corridor.

He also expressed concern about growing terrorist threats reportedly emerging in Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, and Bawku West districts, warning that such destabilising elements could undermine not only local peace efforts but the broader national security architecture.

“Any efforts to restore Bawku as a hub of commerce and harmony must address these threats comprehensively,” he urged.

The Overlord’s call comes amid rising fears of violence and instability in parts of the Upper East Region, where ethnic tensions and armed attacks have disrupted daily life and trade.

He concluded by appealing to the government, security agencies, and stakeholders to act swiftly and work collaboratively to protect vulnerable communities and restore lasting peace to the area.
