The government has officially awarded Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project to Amandi Holdings Ltd, sparking renewed hope for residents in Agavedzi, Salakope, and nearby coastal communities that have long suffered from destructive tidal waves.

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu confirmed the development via a Facebook post, announcing that the contractor is already mobilising equipment and establishing a base at Azizadzi to kickstart full-scale construction.

“I’m pleased to inform you that Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project has officially been awarded to Amandi,” he wrote. “The company is currently mobilising and setting up its operational base at Azizadzi.”

To aid displaced families, the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), in partnership with Eximbank, has provided temporary shelters and is working on a permanent resettlement plan to ensure long-term housing solutions for affected residents.

Mr. Gunu also acknowledged former President John Dramani Mahama, crediting him for initiating the sea defence project during his administration, and expressed gratitude for the government’s continued support, including food and medical aid for affected communities.

The announcement has been met with widespread joy among locals, who see the project as a long-overdue lifeline. Community leaders are calling for unity and cooperation to ensure the project proceeds smoothly.

As construction gets underway, expectations are high that the sea defence system will offer lasting protection, revive livelihoods, and enhance stability across Ghana’s vulnerable coastline.
