Entertainment analyst KOKA has made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to end the culture of mocking local celebrities, especially on social media, warning that such negativity diminishes their international appeal and confidence.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Adom TV on April 6, 2025, KOKA criticized the habit of ridiculing and disrespecting entertainers who are otherwise celebrated as national icons.
“We call our celebrities stars, yet we put them on TV to humiliate them,” he said. “How are we expecting people to respect them? These same people want our stars to go compete internationally, yet they kill their shine here at home.”
KOKA urged media houses and industry players to shift the narrative and become champions of positive promotion rather than platforms for ridicule. He stressed that international respect begins with local appreciation.
“We should protect and support our own because that is all we have,” he emphasized.
His comments come on the heels of a wave of public criticism targeting stars like Sarkodie and Cina Soul, sparking wider conversations about how Ghanaian celebrities are treated within their own country.
KOKA’s call echoes a growing sentiment that national support is vital if Ghanaian entertainers are to thrive and gain the respect they deserve on global platforms.
