Renowned Ghanaian sports journalist, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), succeeding Acting Director General Seth Panwum.
Ampofo Ankrah, who has had a distinguished career in sports media with outlets such as the BBC, SuperSport, and Metro TV, currently serves as the Head of Sports at MAX FM. His appointment is expected to bring fresh ideas and strategic improvements to sports administration in Ghana.
In his new role, he will work closely with the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to enhance sports development and management. His responsibilities include promoting professional and recreational sports, spearheading fitness programs, and ensuring the proper maintenance of sports facilities.
Beyond journalism, Ampofo Ankrah has played a significant role in Ghana’s beach soccer development. He is the President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) and previously chaired the Beach Soccer Committee under the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Stakeholders are optimistic that his leadership will contribute to the growth of sports in Ghana, both at the grassroots and professional levels.
