Students at the Yeji Nursing and Midwifery Training College in the Pru East District of the Bono East Region have been cautioned to exercise responsibility in their use of social media, particularly avoiding the sharing of inappropriate content such as twerking videos and personal adverts.

The caution came from Hon. Emmanuel Kweku Boam, Member of Parliament for Pru East, during the institution’s combined matriculation and graduation ceremony held in Yeji.

Addressing the gathering, the MP expressed concern about how some trainee nurses and midwives were placing more emphasis on social media engagement than on their academic and professional development.

“Our society relies on you. Stay disciplined,” he urged, encouraging students to remain focused on their calling as future health professionals and to uphold the ethics and responsibilities of their chosen field.

Calls for Institutional Support

Also speaking at the event, the college’s Principal, Madam Vincencia Mottey, made an appeal for government support, as well as assistance from the MP and philanthropic individuals. She stressed the urgent need for improved infrastructure, including:

Additional lecture halls

An upgraded dining facility

A modern laboratory to enhance practical training

The ceremony attracted students, faculty, community leaders, and dignitaries, all of whom echoed the importance of discipline, professionalism, and investment in health education.

As the college continues to train future frontline health workers, the calls for better facilities and responsible student conduct highlight the critical role institutions like Yeji Nursing and Midwifery Training College play in strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system.
