Unfinished Pokuase-Nsawam Road Project Leaves Residents Frustrated and at Risk

The long-awaited Pokuase to Nsawam road project has been left incomplete for over six months, and residents are beginning to feel the heavy toll of its abandonment. From alleged accidents to flooding, the consequences are piling up.

Why Has the Construction Stalled for Over Six Months?

What began as a promising infrastructure upgrade has now turned into a glaring inconvenience. The road construction was expected to improve transportation and reduce travel time between Pokuase and Nsawam. However, for reasons yet to be clarified by authorities, the project has been on hold for more than half a year.

Construction materials and heavy machinery remain idle at various points along the stretch. With no visible activity or updates, residents are left wondering when — or if — the project will resume.

How Is the Unfinished Road Affecting Daily Life?

For commuters and residents, the halted project is more than just an eyesore — it’s a hazard. The incomplete sections are riddled with potholes and exposed foundations, turning what should be a smooth route into a dangerous obstacle course.

“There have been multiple accidents recently,” shared a local shop owner. “Especially at night — it’s dark, unmarked, and confusing.”

While no official accident reports have been released, community members insist that the road’s condition has directly contributed to several incidents.

Has the Situation Gotten Worse with the Rains?

Yes — significantly. As of August 6th, large parts of the uncompleted road have become flooded due to recent rains. Stagnant water has pooled in unfinished sections, creating muddy, impassable stretches and increasing the likelihood of vehicle breakdowns and water-related damage.

Some parts of the road resemble swampy terrain more than a construction site, further heightening residents' frustrations.

What Are Residents and Commuters Demanding?

Residents are calling for urgent action. Whether it's resuming the construction, installing proper safety signage, or providing temporary drainage solutions, the demand is clear: do something now before the situation worsens.

“We can’t keep living like this,” said a daily commuter. “This road is vital — not just for convenience, but for safety and livelihood.”

What’s Next?

With no formal response from authorities as of yet, the future of the Pokuase-Nsawam road project remains uncertain. Meanwhile, the community continues to endure the risks and inconveniences of a project that started with high hopes but now stands as a reminder of unfinished promises.
