The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has stated that he will not accept responsibility for any expenditures or official correspondence that do not pass through his office, as part of efforts to strengthen accountability within the ministry.
Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, March 31, the minister described challenges with internal processes, noting that some documents are repeatedly circulated without proper oversight.
“You’ll be sitting there, then all of a sudden something comes up, and you are not aware, or they have sent something, and now they forward it to you again, then you now send it again, then before you realise the repetition is happening,” he explained.
He indicated that a directive has been issued to ensure that all official communications and expenditure requests are properly channeled through his office.
“I vehemently told the chief director that, if you don’t let them pass their expenditures and letters through me, don’t ever call me to come and answer for them, I won’t answer for anything that did not pass through me,” he stated.
According to the minister, the measure is intended to eliminate duplication and reinforce accountability across departments within the ministry.
“So this is one of the things that we are doing to make sure that all these kinds of double letters or multiplications are avoided,” he added.
The remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) over a GHS 3 million मामला involving a resubmitted commitment that had already been settled, raising concerns about financial management practices within the agency.
