Corruption is a big problem in our country. It means some people take money that belongs to everyone and use it for themselves. This is not right because that money should be used to help all of us, like building schools, hospitals, and roads.
President Mahama started the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee to find stolen money and bring it back. This sounds like a good idea because corruption is bad. However, the Chairperson of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Asana Nabla, has a strong opinion about it. She says the committee is not fair.
Janet Nabla thinks this committee is only going after people from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and not everyone who has been corrupt. She believes it is being used to punish political opponents instead of truly fighting corruption. If we want to stop corruption, we must treat everyone the same.
She also says the people leading the ORAL Committee, like Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Daniel Domelevo, may not be fair because of their past issues with NPP. This could make their decisions biased instead of just and honest. She suggests that independent groups like CHRAJ and EOCO should be involved to make sure the fight is neutral and fair to everyone.
If we truly want to stop corruption, we must not pick and choose whom to punish. Both NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) members should be investigated. Stealing is stealing, no matter who does it. We should focus on bringing back stolen money and making sure no one is above the law.
A real fight against corruption should not be about politics. It should be about making sure Ghana is a better place for all of us. If the ORAL Committee wants to win the trust of the people, it should prove that it is here to fight corruption, not to fight political enemies.
