Okatakyie Afrifa Goes Raw On Dormaahene Over Reporting Asantehene And IGP To Mahama

Media personality Okatakyie Afrifa has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding tensions between the Dormaahene and the Asantehene, arguing strongly in defense of traditional authority and long-standing cultural practices within Ghana’s chieftaincy system.

According to Afrifa, ceremonial customs such as inspecting guards of honour, displaying traditional symbols, and flying regional flags are not acts of defiance against the state, but rather legitimate expressions of heritage that are protected under Ghana’s laws.

He referenced Article 271 of the Constitution, noting that it safeguards the dignity, autonomy, and continued existence of the chieftaincy institution. In his view, these protections make it clear that traditional leadership structures operate within the legal framework of the republic, not outside it.
