According to a report by Mynewsgh on August 21st, 2025, the host of Joy FM’s flagship programme Newsfile, Samson Lardy Anyenini, has disclosed that his outspoken stance against corruption and his defence of press freedom have attracted threats on his life.
Speaking at the 2025 edition of the Communication and Media Studies Students’ Association (CoMSSA) festival, dubbed CoMSSAFest, the seasoned journalist and lawyer revealed that exposing the corrupt practices of political elites often comes at a steep personal cost.
“Some of us have spoken. We have come under national security protection. But we must do it. Who else will do it?” he told a packed auditorium.
Mr. Anyenini, who also serves as counsel for investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni and the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), said his association with accountability causes has made him a target for attacks and intimidation by unidentified individuals.
“Just by being a lawyer for Manasseh, I attract attacks and hate. What has he done wrong? That he exposed the rot, saved the country money, and didn’t take a penny for himself? Is that his crime?” he questioned.
The award-winning journalist further lamented what he described as the erosion of Ghana’s democracy by large-scale corruption.
“Ghana’s democracy is bleeding from grand corruption — where billions of cedis are stolen by the political elite, while ordinary citizens are mobilised as a broke army to defend those same corrupt leaders,” he stated.
Despite the threats, Mr. Anyenini vowed to remain steadfast in speaking truth to power.
“Effective communication must be grounded in truth, guided by purpose, and fuelled by courage,” he asserted.
