According to a report from Asaase radio dated on 12th July, Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has cautioned political leaders against treating electoral victories as ownership of Ghana.

Speaking at the 2026 Busia Institute Lecture in London, Mr Kufuor said Parliament, the judiciary, the media and other independent institutions must be protected to preserve democracy and accountability.

He stressed that political opponents remain fellow citizens and that no temporary electoral majority owns the country.

The former president also called for strong institutions to prevent the abuse of political power.

The lecture, held under the theme, “Centre-Right Political Thought in Africa: The Ghanaian Experience,” was the first Busia Institute Lecture organised outside Ghana.
