While most eyes are often on the artist, the real engine behind a song's reach and success is often running quietly in the background. One of the names making major moves in that engine room is Jamiu Opeyemi Akamo, a Lagos-based music marketing service provider building serious momentum across the continent.
With over 2,000 music project campaigns to his name and partnerships with leading platforms like Apprise Music, Akamo has quietly become a trusted force for helping artists get heard — whether or not they’re signed to a major label.
Driven by purpose
For Akamo, it all started with a love for distributing and creating music. But his real mission was clearer: “To give every artist the actual opportunity to get heard.”
That artist-first philosophy has guided his journey. From working independently to landing an ambassador deal with a distribution company, Akamo has remained focused on building sustainable paths for creatives to rise.
Strategic by design
His approach is clear: listen first, then execute.
“My approach is alignment with what the artist, label or management wants,” he explains, “then we do our best in getting them what they want.”
That mindset has led him into high-level collaborations, many under NDA, and inspired tailored marketing strategies for artists across different sounds and stages of growth.
“In as much as I gravitate to the sound, I’m not genre specific,” Akamo says. “What matters most is impact.”
Marketing that breaks ground
One of his standout traits is the ability to craft “clinically groundbreaking” strategies that go beyond vanity metrics. He's kept a close eye on key trends, especially the explosive use of TikTok as a driver of music discovery and fan engagement.
With Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment as his biggest inspirations, Akamo sees a future where more African creatives win independently — and he’s building that reality one campaign at a time.
Vision: Africa’s biggest music marketing company
Now, with an upcoming partnership with Apprise Music already underway, Akamo is setting his sights on something bigger: becoming Africa’s largest music marketing company.
At the heart of that vision is a deep belief in artist empowerment. “Basically giving artists the opportunity to be successful without having to be in a label,” he explains. “Giving creatives tools to be as big as they want, without necessarily having to be affiliated with a major.”
His advice to young professionals and artists is simple, but powerful: “Keep going and never give up. It could be today or tomorrow.”
