Teshie Kpaashimo 2025: a festival where no secret is spared

On Sunday, August 31, 2025, the town of Teshie came alive with the Kpaashimo festival, one of the community’s most vibrant cultural traditions. Residents filled the streets, moving in groups that represented different clans, each carrying unique flags that identified their heritage and voice.

A festival of rhythm and truth

For nearly four hours, participants jogged through the town in circular routes, chanting and singing. The festival is known for its fearless expression. No secret is spared, and no issue is left unaddressed. Matters of family, politics, and community are laid bare in song, while praise is sung only when truly earned.

Clans on display

The sight of clans meeting from opposite sides of the town created powerful moments of cultural pride and unity. Each group showcased not just their flags but also their resilience and ability to speak truth to power through tradition.

Guided experience

TrenderHQ had the privilege of attending this year’s Kpaashimo festival with the guidance of Joshua Hammond, CEO of the Joseph Ashitey Hammond Foundation. He extended an invitation, served as a warm guide, and introduced us to friendly community members who ensured our safety throughout the day.

More than a celebration

Kpaashimo is more than just a festive gathering. It is an outlet for free expression, a mirror to the community, and a reminder of the power of unity through culture.
