In the tranquil town of Anfoega Akukome in Ghana’s Volta Region, a powerful voice is rising—one that carries healing, hope, and faith. Known in the gospel music scene as Nyornuzaze Rebecca, this multi-talented woman is using her gift to uplift hearts and spread light through soul-stirring Gospel Highlife music.

Born Rebecca Mawule Attakuma, her story is one of divine calling, resilience, and unwavering purpose. Her childhood nicknames, Afoefa and Nyornuzaze, given by her family, weren’t just affectionate titles—they became the roots of her identity. When she embraced her destiny in music and media, she chose to go by Nyornuzaze Rebecca, a name rich in meaning. In Akan, it translates to Obaasima, and in English, Virtuous Lady—a perfect reflection of who she is.

Growing Up in a Home Full of Faith and Music

Music was more than a pastime in Rebecca’s household—it was part of their spiritual rhythm. Her father, a passionate music lover, would fill their home with melodies that stirred something deep in her. Church life at Great Commission Church International nurtured her early musical gifts. By age 12, she was not just in the choir—she was leading worship with grace and power beyond her years.

School assemblies became another stage where she shared her talent. “I started writing songs when I was in class six,” she remembers. “Singing in church made people smile, and that joy filled me too.”

Answering a Spiritual Call: Rebecca’s gift grew into a divine responsibility. Her songs aren’t just written—they’re received. Many come to her in spontaneous moments of prayer or reflection. Each melody, each lyric, is a message meant to touch lives.

“My songs come to me at any time,” she says. “When I hear the voice in my spirit, I immediately sing it out, write it down, and record it.”

She currently worships at E.T. Boye Temple of the Church of Pentecost in Amrahia, where she launched her debut album in November 2024—a major turning point in her career.

From South Africa to Ghana—and into the Studio

Before music took center stage, Rebecca spent ten years in South Africa working as a beautician. Though she had dreams of launching her music career there, circumstances led her back home. In 2015, she returned to Ghana and pursued a diploma in Broadcast Journalism, which she completed in 2017.

Her radio career began with the gospel program “Mikafu Mawu” on Valley View Radio 97.7FM, which became a bridge to her music career. Gospel artist Minister Shika Azasu introduced her to Ogesam Recordz in Ashaiman, where Rebecca began recording professionally. It was here that she met Jake Nene Aryee, her manager and music video director.

The Power of Gospel Highlife: Nyornuzaze Rebecca has found her voice in Gospel Highlife, a genre known for its joyful rhythms and spiritual resonance. “I love songs that make people rejoice,” she explains. “Gospel Highlife speaks to both the soul and the spirit.”

Her debut album features eight original songs, and she has already released two music videos—with more in the pipeline. She writes and composes all her songs, pouring her heart and faith into every lyric.

Recognition and Awards: Her dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed. Rebecca was named Most Outstanding Media Personality at the Ashaiman Excellence Awards in 2021 and Humble Artist of the Year at the Ebenezer Gospel Music Awards in 2025. She also received a nomination at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards—a remarkable achievement that marks her as one to watch.

A Mission Bigger Than Music: Rebecca’s dream goes far beyond the stage. She hopes to take her music across Africa and Europe, collaborate with other gospel artists, and launch the Nyornuzaze Rebecca Foundation to support underprivileged communities.

“I’m trusting God to take my music worldwide,” she says. “I believe these songs will find their way into hearts all over the world.”

A Multifaceted Life: In addition to being an artist, Rebecca is a certified broadcast journalist and a successful beautician. She uses her salon business to support her music and manages her own styling for events and video shoots. Her ability to juggle these roles is a testament to her discipline, faith, and focus.

Advice for the Next Generation - For anyone looking to follow in her footsteps, Nyornuzaze Rebecca offers this piece of advice:

“Stay focused and work hard. There will be discouragement and distractions, but don’t lose sight of your calling. Let God lead you. If He is with you, no matter how tough the road is, you will make it through.”

Nyornuzaze Rebecca’s journey is just beginning, but her light is already shining bright. Follow her on YouTube and across streaming platforms to experience her unique blend of faith, music, and purpose.
