BIA Calls for Joint Police and Military Takeover Security at Ghana Highways Axle Load Stations Nationwide

The Bureau of Internal Affairs (BIA) is calling as a matter of urgency for a joint police and military security takeover at Ghana Highways axle load weighing stations nationwide following increasing attacks, insecurity, intimidation, and unlawful interference targeting axle load stations and workers across the country.

BIA intelligence and monitoring reports indicate that violent attacks and intimidation by lawlessness groups and unauthorized individuals claiming to operate in the name of national security and the Office of the President continue to threaten lawful state operations and public safety.

The Bureau has specifically identified repeated attacks and disturbances at the Tema Motorway Axle Load Weighing Station and its workers, the Tema Beach Road Axle Load Weighing Station and workers, the Akatsi Axle Load Weighing Station and workers, as well as reported incidents within parts of the Ashanti Region and other axle load stations nationwide.

According to BIA intelligence, these unlawful activities continue to create fear, operational disruptions, threats against workers, unlawful interference in enforcement duties, and insecurity at critical transport enforcement points across the country.

The Bureau warns that the continued attacks on axle load stations and workers threaten national security, weaken transport regulation enforcement, encourage corruption and lawlessness, and expose state institutions to organized criminal interference.

BIA is therefore calling on the Inspector-General of Police, the Ghana Armed Forces High Command, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the National Security Council, and all relevant state institutions to urgently deploy joint police and military security personnel to take over and secure axle load stations nationwide.

The Bureau believes the operation will help to:

Restore law and order at axle load stations

Protect workers and state institutions

Prevent violent attacks and unlawful invasions

Strengthen enforcement operations nationwide

Protect government revenue and national infrastructure

Deter criminal syndicates and unauthorized operatives

BIA further stresses that no individual or group should be allowed to use political influence, intimidation, or false national security claims to interfere with lawful state operations.

The Bureau remains committed to supporting lawful institutions through intelligence gathering, anti-corruption operations, and the protection of national economic and security interests.
