President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the Oxygen City Housing Project in Ho, describing the ambitious development as a game-changer in addressing Ghana's persistent housing deficit.

The groundbreaking ceremony held in the Volta Region brought together traditional leaders, government officials, and industry stakeholders to witness what the President termed a major commitment to delivering affordable, well-planned housing while promoting balanced regional development.

Oxygen City, being developed by TDC Ghana Limited, will span approximately 1,860 acres of land in the Adaklu Traditional Area. The integrated urban development will feature multi-storey apartment blocks comprising two-bedroom and three-bedroom units designed to meet international standards while remaining affordable for average Ghanaian families.

Beyond residential facilities, the project will include comprehensive infrastructure such as tarred roads, reliable water and electricity supply, a modern hospital, hotel accommodations, educational institutions, commercial markets, shopping centers, and recreational facilities.

President Mahama emphasized that Oxygen City represents more than just housing construction, highlighting its potential to generate massive employment opportunities and attract significant investment to the Volta Region.

"Projects such as Oxygen City directly respond to this challenge. They represent integrated urban development creating complete ecosystems where people can live, work, access services and build livelihoods within the same geographical space," the President stated.

The project marks TDC Ghana's first major development outside Tema, where the company's flagship TDC Community 27 has successfully housed thousands of families for decades.

In a significant announcement, President Mahama revealed that his administration has secured land in the Ashanti Region with the support of the Asantehene for TDC Community 28, signaling the government's intention to replicate the Oxygen City model across multiple regions.

Managing Director of TDC Ghana, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, described the launch as a transformative milestone that ends the era of inaccessible home ownership for Ghanaians. He assured stakeholders that the company would deliver the project with the integrity and construction excellence that has defined TDC's reputation.

Nunekpeku emphasized that Oxygen City would create thousands of direct and indirect jobs during construction and operation phases, demonstrating that major urban developments can thrive outside traditional urban centers like Accra and Tema.
