The Vice Chancellor of UMaT, Prof Richard Amankwaa in his report on the university noted that that UMaT is spearheading a technological revolution with projects such as the $600,000 Smart Systems Centre, funded by AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Ltd.
The centre, which will be open to the Tarkwa community, is designed to enhance skills in artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and machine learning. "This initiative will not only transform education at UMaT but also inspire the next generation of innovators in Ghana," the Vice Chancellor remarked.
Another key highlight was the Agri-IoT project, led by Dr. Effah and supported by the World Bank. The project has already trained 203 farmers in the Savanna Region on precision agriculture using IoT technology.
Sensors embedded in farms monitor moisture and nutrient levels, enabling farmers to optimize irrigation and boost productivity. The project addresses climate change-related challenges and promises year-round farming.
While commending the graduates, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Richard Kwasi Amankwaa urged them to identify some of the problems in society and solve at least one significant problem for which reason society will remember them.
Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, in his keynote address, lauded UMaT as a beacon of STEM education in Ghana. "UMaT has shown what leadership and vision can achieve. Your innovations are a source of pride for Ghana and an inspiration for the world," he remarked.
