The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is set to release the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the second week of December 2024. This announcement was made through a press release issued on December 1, 2024.

According to the statement, WAEC has completed the marking of scripts for students who participated in the 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates. Following this development, the examination council is finalizing processes to ensure the release of results between December 9 and December 15, 2024. Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs confirmed, “We are looking at the second week of December, so at least between the 9th and the 15th of December, we are sure that we will be able to release the results.”

The 2024 WASSCE was conducted across Ghana from Monday, August 5, to Friday, September 20, 2024, with Visual Arts Project Work marking the conclusion of the examination. This year, a total of 460,611 candidates, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females, registered to take the examination at 1,000 centers nationwide. Out of these, 1,003 participants represented private schools.

However, WAEC revealed that 19,808 candidates' results have been withheld due to issues of examination malpractice. Some results have also been canceled entirely. These measures were implemented following the council’s investigative findings regarding irregularities at various centers.

In its statement, WAEC emphasized its commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process and urged all affected candidates to reach out for further clarification. “All 2024 WASSCE candidates are encouraged to contact WAEC’s WhatsApp assistant service at +233 20 555 0989 to check the status of their results if withheld or canceled,” the statement noted. Candidates also have the option to appeal through their respective WAEC offices.

The GES and WAEC reassured the public of their dedication to ensuring fairness and transparency throughout the examination process. With over 460,000 candidates eagerly awaiting their results, this update marks a significant milestone in the academic journey of Ghanaian students.
