Ghanaian musician Prosper Dossey popularly known as Prosdos has once again put the nation on the map after receiving a prestigious honorary award at the Elite Academy of Africa’s Pioneers Gala held on May 17, 2025, in Cotonou, Benin.

The event, regarded as one of the most significant cultural recognitions on the continent, celebrates artists who serve as “pathfinders” in their fields those whose talent, creativity and dedication leave a lasting mark on their country and generation.
At this year’s edition, six artists were honored, including creatives from Benin and Togo. Prosdos was the only Ghanaian to be recognized, a testament to his rising influence on the music scene. The young musician’s body of work blends both traditional and modern sounds, including highlife, hiplife, Afrobeats, gospel, reggae and sagacity—creating a unique style that continues to captivate audiences.
Some of his songs currently streaming on African music platform Boomplay include Union Africa for Culture, The Beauty of Tome, Ibrahim Traore, Bebe Shokoma (ft. Backbush), Ghana Guy (ft. Charllion), and Yollo Me. His collaborations with artists from Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo highlight his openness to cultural exchange and his vision of taking Ghanaian music to the global stage.
Despite his growing recognition, Prosdos says his journey has not been without obstacles. Speaking to the press, he revealed the numerous challenges he faces as an independent artist:
“I want help. I need management. Producing my albums is expensive since I cover all studio costs myself. There’s also a lack of promotional activities to push my work. Another challenge is communication—I need more presence in the media. I want radio and TV stations to play my songs, and journalists to feature my story. I appeal to the Ghanaian authorities, especially those in charge of tourism and culture, to support my efforts.”
Prosdos emphasized that his art is not just for personal gain but for the pride of Ghana:

“All the awards I receive internationally are first and foremost dedicated to Ghana. I am proud to represent my country, and with the right support, I can do even more to promote our culture worldwide.”
Why This Matters for Ghanaian Music
The recognition of Prosdos by the Elite Academy of Africa is more than a personal achievement—it is a win for Ghana’s cultural image. In a nation known for its rich music heritage, supporting emerging talents like Prosdos could play a key role in sustaining Ghana’s influence in Africa’s evolving music industry.
As the young artist’s profile continues to rise, his call for unwavering government and industry support remains urgent. If his appeal receives a positive response, Prosdos could become one of Ghana’s leading cultural ambassadors, carrying the nation’s rhythms and stories to the world stage.
For now, he remains an artist to watch driven, talented, and determined to make Ghana proud.
