Just In: Waec Releases 2024 BECE Result

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for candidates who participated in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both School and Private Candidates. In a statement issued on October 19, WAEC announced that the results for school candidates will be distributed to their respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.

However, WAEC reported several cases of examination malpractice during the assessment process. Following thorough investigations, the Final Awards and Examiners' Appointment Committee convened for its 35th meeting on October 16, 2024, and decided to cancel the subject results for 377 school candidates and 3 private candidates found guilty of bringing unauthorized materials into the examination hall or collaborating with others.

Additionally, the complete results of 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate were also cancelled.

WAEC further revealed that the results of 33 school candidates and 3 private candidates have been withheld pending further investigations into reported irregularities. Likewise, subject results from 149 schools have been put on hold due to allegations of malpractice. These results will either be released or cancelled, depending on the findings of the ongoing investigations.

In total, 569,236 candidates, including 282,703 males and 286,533 females from 19,505 schools, registered for the school examination. This group included 59 candidates with visual impairments, 263 with hearing impairments, and 161 who required other special accommodations. The examinations took place at 2,123 centres across the country, with 3,845 candidates reported as absent.

For the BECE for Private Candidates, 1,390 individuals, comprising 750 males and 640 females, registered to take the exams at 15 centres, primarily located in regional capitals. Among these candidates, 57 were noted as absent.
