Dramatic Drop in Pass Rates
The most alarming finding in the 2025 WASSCE results is the collapse in Core Mathematics performance. Only 209,068 candidates achieved grades A1 to C6, representing just 48.73% of test-takers.

This represents the lowest Core Mathematics pass rate in the four-year period analyzed by WAEC (2022-2025).
Social Studies Performance
Social Studies also experienced significant decline, with only 55.82% of candidates passing with grades A1-C6, compared to 71.53% in 2024. A total of 122,449 candidates (27.50%) failed the subject.

WAEC's Ghana Examinations Committee approved severe penalties at its 40th meeting on November 17, 2025:
Results Cancelled:
6,295 candidates: Subject results cancelled for bringing foreign materials (notes, textbooks, printed materials)
653 candidates: Entire results annulled for mobile phone possession
Results Withheld:
908 candidates: Subject results withheld pending investigation
158 candidates: Entire results withheld
185 schools: Results withheld for alleged collusion
WAEC pledged to release withheld results before December 31, 2025, pending investigation outcomes.
Teachers and Supervisors Face Legal Action
Thirty-five education personnel, including 19 teachers, were found complicit in examination irregularities:
19 persons: Already convicted with fines or imprisonment
16 persons: Awaiting court presentation
Convicted teachers' names will be forwarded to the Ghana Education Service (GES) Director General for additional disciplinary measures.
