Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) candidate for Amenfi Central, was prohibited from running in the next parliamentary election, but the Sekondi High Court has removed the order.
This ruling, which was delivered on Monday, November 11, 2024, comes after the court adjourned on November 7. In order to enable its candidate to run in the election scheduled for December 7, the NDC had asked the court to overturn her disqualification. It was His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh who presided over the case.
Earlier, Joana Gyan Cudjoe's lead attorney, Edudzie Tamakloe, pleaded with the court to move the matter along quickly, emphasising that any more delays may violate her right to run for office. In agreement, His Lordship Gyan-Kontoh emphasised the need of a resolution and urged both parties to think about an out-of-court settlement, which never happened. Joana Gyan Cudjoe is now able to run in Amenfi Central according to today's decision. She thanked God for all that transpired today, especially my new lawyers who came in to save me, following the verdict. I give God, the NDC members, the executives, and the entire Western Region NDC my gratitude. I have to admit, I'm really pleased.
