In the Upper East Region's Pusi-Namoo, a suburb of Bolgatanga, gunmen opened fire on a bus, reportedly injuring dozens of people.

According to reports, the gunmen ambushed the bus and started shooting at the passengers as it was making its way from Garu in the Upper East Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Several passengers suffered severe gunshot wounds in the event, which happened at around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga is where the injured have been transported.

Although the exact cause of the attack is unknown, sources claim it was related to the Bawku war.

Since then, the crime scene has been taken over by the police.

Meanwhile, two people were killed in a bloody battle between fighters in Bawku on Friday afternoon.

Security forces seized eight assault rifles and arrested four people as a result of the altercation in the Kpalore-Gozesi area.

For more investigation, the detained suspects have been sent to the Upper East Regional Police Headquarters in Bolgatanga.

Since the violence restarted in October 2024, the number of fatalities has increased to 41 with this most recent occurrence.

Tensions in the area are still being exacerbated by the ongoing chieftaincy issue.

A dawn-to-dusk curfew has been enforced, but the region is still insecure, and communities have isolated themselves as a result of the tense circumstances.
