Veteran Ghanaian actor Samuel Karikari, widely known by his screen name Koo Ofori from the renowned TV series Efiewura, has been hauled into jail by the Accra Central Police Command amid suspicions of fraud.
Koo Ofori is charged with cheating a Ghanaian citizen in California out of $50,000, according to a report from Obaatanpa Radio in Kasoa. According to reports, the victim sent the money knowing it would be used for a lucrative investment project the actor had suggested. However, Koo Ofori allegedly broke his half of the bargain after receiving the money and disappeared without fulfilling any of the investment criteria that had been agreed upon.
On April 17, 2025, the actor allegedly missed payments and did not show up for the Dansoman District Court, which caused the issue to worsen. The court issued a bench warrant for his arrest because of his absence.
Atinka FM distributed recordings showing police officers apprehending Koo Ofori and escorting him to the courthouse in handcuffs. But the hearing that was supposed to happen on May 9, 2025, never happened. Since then, the case has been rescheduled by authorities for Monday, May 12, 2025.
The actor will be in detention until his next court appearance, according to police confirmation. Because of Koo Ofori's well-known status in the entertainment business, the case continues to get a lot of public attention.
