British-Nigerian Influencer's Death Linked to Penile Filler Injection Abroad

British-Nigerian social media influencer Igho Ubiribo passed away on March 6, 2026, following complications from a cosmetic procedure he underwent while on holiday in Thailand with his wife, according to reports from Ghbase News and the Daily Mail.

The 43-year-old, who traveled to the Southeast Asian nation with his spouse Danielle Simba Allen, opted to receive a penile filler injection during their stay. While he initially seemed to recover without issues, his health took a turn when he began suffering from chest pain. He reportedly lost consciousness twice while receiving a massage alongside his wife.

Concerned onlookers quickly called for emergency care, and Ubiribo was hospitalized. Medical tests revealed that he had suffered a pulmonary embolism—a blockage in the lung's blood supply caused by a clot. Doctors recommended further scans to determine the severity, but his condition worsened before the imaging could be carried out.

Despite more than 100 minutes of resuscitation efforts, medical staff were unable to save him. After his body was repatriated to the UK, a post-mortem examination uncovered cellular material in his lungs consistent with hyaluronic acid, the substance used in the filler. This evidence supported the conclusion that the embolism was directly linked to the procedure.

Coroner Jean Harkin formally ruled that Ubiribo died as a result of a cosmetic operation overseas, with the official cause being a pulmonary embolism triggered by the penile injection. His case has since highlighted the dangers of undergoing cosmetic treatments abroad.

Ubiribo had cultivated a strong online following, amassing over 185,000 Instagram followers and earning recognition within the entertainment scene. His funeral in May drew family, friends, and several celebrities, including Nigerian music star Davido. His sudden death has left both loved ones and fans grieving the loss of a vibrant social media figure whose life was cut short during what was meant to be a vacation getaway.
