According to the Ghana Catholic Bishop Conference's Director for Governance, Justice, and Peace, Rev. Father Michael Ka Quaicoe, the church would not take donations from anybody engaged in galamsey, or illicit mining.
Rev. Quaicoe asserts that the church is dedicated to conserving God's creation and safeguarding the environment.
Supporting the mission of the church while damaging the environment is incompatible, he underlined.
On Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem, Rev. stated that they had discussed how they would be able to safeguard the environment because God has given it to us as our property, and we ought to take use of it and safeguard it as well.
"We have to take double action to see if our actions are effective if some people are destroying our land out of greed and selfishness. We have considered the Galamsey that is taking place, and we know that some of the people involved will undoubtedly be from our churches. If you are in our country or from our church and we advise you about it and you don't listen, then there is no need for us to take your money for any support of God's works if you can't protect his creatures."
The church's position is unambiguous: if you participate in galamsey, your funds are not accepted. The Catholic Church is pushing its followers to prioritize protecting nature and fostering environmental stewardship by adopting this stance.
