Close Call at Anloga: Taxi Fire Averted Near Fuel Pumps, Thanks to Swift Firefighters

A routine car maintenance session turned into a heart-stopping emergency for a taxi driver in Anloga this week, as his vehicle suddenly erupted in flames just meters away from a fuel station.

The incident, which occurred at Sogakope near the Davis Filling Station, sent shockwaves through the Savietula community. The driver could only watch as his Opel Astra taxi—which was simply in for repairs—became the source of a dangerous blaze.

A Recipe for Disaster

According to preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire was sparked by a terrifyingly simple chain of events. A gas leak from the vehicle met a metallic spark during the maintenance work, creating an instant fireball.

The location could not have been more perilous. With the fuel station's pumps just a stone's throw away, the situation had all the makings of a catastrophic disaster.

Heroic Response Prevents Catastrophe

In a race against time, a team of firefighters from the Anloga Fire Station, led by ASTNO Kpogo Newton Kwesi, sprang into action. Receiving the distress call, they responded with incredible speed and coordination.

Their professionalism was the difference between a contained incident and a full-blown tragedy. Within minutes, they had the intense fire under control, successfully preventing it from spreading to the highly volatile fuel station, as well as nearby shops and homes.

"It Could Have Been So Much Worse"

The swift action of the GNFS team did not go unnoticed. Shaken residents who witnessed the event were quick to praise the firefighters, acknowledging that their prompt response averted what could have easily escalated into a major explosion.

One can only imagine the outcome had the fire reached the fuel pumps. Thanks to the bravery and efficiency of our local firefighters, the community was spared that nightmare.
