Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, Ghana's former vice president, has been spotted in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where he is making the Umrah pilgrimage with his wife, Hajia Samira Bawumia, and a number of his close friends.

Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia informed his wife of his spiritual journey, noting that the pilgrimage is an opportunity to express thankfulness to Allah for the abundance of grace bestowed upon them.

"Together with Hajia @SBawumia and some friends, I arrived in Mecca yesterday to perform Umrah (Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca). This is to thank the Almighty Allah for His grace. We also prayed for guidance and protection for us and for our nation, Ghana." He wrote on his (X)twitter page.

The former vice president stressed the spiritual significance of the voyage, noting that it provided an opportunity to pray for guidance and protection. "We also prayed for guidance and protection for us and our nation, Ghana," according to him.

Umrah, sometimes known as the "lesser pilgrimage," is a significant act of worship in Islam that entails a series of ceremonies conducted in Mecca. It differs from Hajj, Muslims' mandated pilgrimage, yet those who participate reap enormous spiritual advantages.

Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia's pilgrimage to Mecca comes as Ghana faces socioeconomic issues, and his prayers for the country reflect his ongoing concern for its well-being. His spiritual retreat has received great feedback from supporters, with many praising him for his devotion and prayers for the country.
