Ernest Kumi, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Akwatia, has reportedly died.

According to available reports, he passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025. The exact cause of his death has not yet been officially disclosed.
Kumi, a first-term MP, won the seat in the 2024 general elections after a fiercely contested race marred by claims of vote-buying and electoral irregularities, leading to a legal challenge over his victory.
His death follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned his contempt conviction tied to the disputed election results.
Earlier, in February 2025, the Koforidua High Court had convicted him for violating an interim injunction that prohibited him from being sworn in as an MP. The court also issued a bench warrant for his arrest, citing his failure to appear in court and his defiance of judicial orders.
