
On Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2025, a fire broke out in a shop on top of a single-story structure at Abeka Lapaz, immediately across the Ecobank Branch. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly, preventing a huge calamity.
According to accounts, the GNFS got the distress call at 2:25 PM. Within 10 minutes, a squad lead by ADO I Samuel Edziah came on the spot to put out the fire. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a roaring fire consuming objects such as towels, curtains, curtain rods, and bedsheets inside the business.
Through persistent efforts, the fire was brought under control by 3:03 PM and totally doused by 4:35 PM. The firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to 13 other establishments, saving them from damage.
Tragically, the owner of the damaged shop fell as she saw the extent of the destruction to her business. She was immediately transported to Lapaz Community Hospital, where she was resuscitate and stabilized. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
The cause of the fire is unknown, since investigations are presently continuing to discover its source.
The GNFS continues to encourage the public to prioritize fire safety, particularly in commercial areas, in order to avoid such incidents.
