The former CEO of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab, is the primary suspect in a major corruption probe for allegedly using state funds to acquire high-value assets. This was disclosed by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine.
Speaking at a Government Accountability Series in Accra, Dr. Ayine revealed that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has traced numerous luxury properties and suspicious bank transactions linked to Abdul-Wahab, believed to be financed with illicit funds.
Abdul-Wahab and his wife were arrested on June 25, 2025. He was later granted a GH¢60 million bail, while his wife was released on a GH¢30 million bail. The opposition NPP has criticized these conditions as harsh and politically motivated, a claim the government denies.
Assets under investigation include:
A $1.625 million five-bedroom house at Chain Homes
A $600,000 three-bedroom residence in Cantonments
Plots of land at Airport Development Area worth $750,000
A 17-bedroom boutique hotel in Tamale
A GH¢4.14 million bungalow in Dzorwulu
Dr. Ayine assured that all assets proven to be purchased with stolen state funds will be confiscated by the state.
