Former President John Agyekum Kufuor's support of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) 2024 presidential contender, has drawn harsh criticism from Movement for Change presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen.

"President Kufuor knows my worth; if he says today that he doesn't know the value I carry, it is unto him," said Kyerematen, a former NPP stalwart who also voiced his disapproval of Kufuor's recent public support of Bawumia.

He made these remarks during an interview with Kwasi Parker-Wilson on Oyerepa TV on Monday, November 18.

Former President Kufuor had previously called on Ghanaians to support Bawumia, calling him the nation's best candidate and expressing confidence that his business sense would greatly boost Ghana's economy.

Kufuor also emphasized Bawumia's role in the country's currency restoration while he was working with Governor Dr. Paul Acquah's Bank of Ghana team.

He asserted that in addition to harming Kufuor's reputation, the endorsement has generated a lot of insults and criticism.

I don't want to publicly criticize Kufuor because he is an elderly uncle of mine. However, his political career has been severely damaged by what he did.

Are you aware of the negative remarks that people have begun to make about him? Do you not hear the taunts? Take a look at the individuals who are disparaging him. Why would he now be involved in politics of this kind when he is well revered in Ghana? He is my uncle, and he has to cease his nasty behavior and harmful behavior. He is skilled at what he does.

Kyerematen, who broke away from the NPP to lead his newly-formed Movement for Change, has positioned himself as an alternative to the NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC).

His reaction reflects broader tensions within the political landscape as the December 2024 elections draw closer.
