The National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the Okaikoi South Constituency were rattled by the reported attack on their campaign van late on Monday, November 11, 2024.

According to the NDC, the attack was carried out in the constituency by New Patriotic Party (NPP) foot soldiers under the command of Oti, a former constituency organizer for the party.

According to the NDC, the attackers targeted their campaign van, resulting in an injury to the driver.

The attack has drawn harsh criticism from the NDC, which has called it "senseless violence" and pledged to take constructive steps to safeguard its supporters and pursue justice.

The party voiced their outrage over the violence and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting its followers in a statement issued by Constituency Secretary Evans Okoe Quaye.

Such violence and intimidation will not be accepted by the NDC. We will not watch helplessly as our supporters are singled out. We will take the required steps to safeguard our citizens and guarantee that justice is done," Mr. Quaye declared.

The NDC will not tolerate such violence and intimidation. When our supporters are singled out, we won't stand by and do nothing. "We will take the necessary actions to protect our citizens and ensure that justice is served," Mr. Quaye said.

The attack is part of a concerning pattern of violence associated with the NPP, according to the NDC, which also called attention to the larger political backdrop.

A clear reminder of the NPP's history of exploiting state security forces for political ends is provided by this episode. NDC leaders have asked their followers to maintain composure while being alert in spite of the circumstances. The statement said, in part, that "we will defend our rights and democracy, but we will not be provoked into violence."

In recent weeks, as the December elections approach, tensions between NPP and NDC supporters have been increasing. Nine persons were hurt in a violent altercation between the two groups that took place in Mamobi, Accra, on Sunday, October 13. Some constituencies have seen a rise in political violence. Both parties are advocating for peace and asking their followers to abstain from violence as the nation gets ready for the next election.
