The Honorable Kennedy The MP for Assin Central for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ohene Agyapong, has explained why his party chose to avoid Parliament even though the House was recalled. The Majority caucus had called the recall meeting, which was supposed to cover a number of important topics.
Speaker Bagbin, however, was disappointed that the Majority caucus did not show up in the Chamber, stating that their absence caused the proceedings to stagnate.
Because there is no business for MPs to discuss after the Business committee failed to convene and create the required agenda for the floor, Alban Bagbin has decided to adjourn the House indefinitely.
The Showdown Politician responded to the development by stating that his party was in a caucus meeting that went on for too long and that they did not intentionally boycott Parliament.
Kennedy Agyapong clarified that Kwame Governs Agbodza, the NDC Chief whip, knew about the meeting but neglected to inform the Speaker, forcing him to adjourn the assembly.
During a video posted on its verified Facebook page by Accra-based Citi FM, the firebrand NPP MP made it clear that the NPP caucus wanted to grasp the Speaker's position on the Supreme Court's recent verdict about the four House seats that are up for grabs.
"So I am begging you, what happened today was not deliberate that we were boycotting but we wanted to get the understanding from the Speaker. So we were at a caucus meeting; maybe I will agree that it ( the meeting) took so long," Kennedy Agyapong clarifies.
