Nigerian national Augustine Ogechukwu Maazi has entered a not-guilty plea to eight charges linked to an alleged robbery gang that targeted banks in Accra’s Labone area.
He appeared before the Accra Circuit Court, where his lawyer’s request for bail was refused. The court then ordered him remanded in police custody.
Prosecutors claim Maazi belonged to a syndicate that was planning to rob GCB Bank, Ecobank and Zenith Bank in Labone when police disrupted the operation. He faces eight counts, including conspiracy to commit robbery, and is said to have been involved in a series of bank robberies over the years.
After the hearing, Maazi was escorted from the Accra Circuit Court by police following the denial of bail. The case has been adjourned to 2 September 2026 for further proceedings.
Police are still searching for two alleged accomplices who remain at large.
