Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an advisor to former Vice President Bawamdu Bawumia, has expressed his approval of the legal action taken against NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) for his alleged involvement in illegal mining.
Aboagye stated he is "glad" Wontumi is having his day in court, emphasizing that this is how a lawful society should function. He believes the court is the proper venue for Wontumi to prove his innocence regarding allegations against his company, Akonta Mining.
However, Aboagye used the occasion to challenge the government's consistency. He questioned why several high-profile NDC members, including a local chairman captured on camera confronting military personnel and an MP accused in a petition, are not facing similar prosecutions. He argued that if illegal mining activities have tripled, it demonstrates that Wontumi is not the only major figure involved and demanded to know who the other "kingpins" are.
In a related development, Wontumi's lead lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, reported that the process to secure his client's release on a GH₵25 million bail is underway and should be completed shortly, praising the court and police for their cooperation.
