According to a GHPage report, an angry mob in Accra lynched four suspected criminals and set their motorcycle on fire after an alleged robbery in the Achimota district.
The daytime incident drew a large crowd of shocked bystanders as emotions ran high and the situation quickly grew volatile.
The deceased suspects have been named as Kofi Mensah, Emmanuel Aidoo, Samuel Owusu, and Abubakar Ibrahim. They were reportedly captured shortly after robbing a local businessman.
Witnesses said the men had been spreading fear in the community for weeks, allegedly preying on pedestrians, traders, and small shop owners.
On the day of the event, the group reportedly robbed a storekeeper, snatched his cash, and tried to flee on a bike. But their escape was foiled when a nearby vendor shouted for help, drawing the attention of people nearby.
According to onlookers, residents gave chase, cornered the suspects, and blocked any chance of escape.
The confrontation then turned violent, with the crowd attacking the four men. They were beaten and held down as public anger grew.
Shortly after, the suspects’ motorcycle was reportedly soaked in fuel and set ablaze.
Some locals said the mob's fury was fueled by mounting frustration over frequent theft and intimidation in the area. Still, others spoke out against the act, warning that vigilante justice is dangerous and erodes legal order.
A local teacher who commented on the event stressed that even suspected offenders should be handed over to police, not subjected to mob violence.
Police are said to have arrived on the scene after the violence had already taken place. Authorities have now launched an investigation into the deaths and the burning of the motorbike.
The bodies of the four men have been taken to a morgue, while police continue to collect statements and evidence.
