Following a toy gun threat from some of his people in Atasemanso, Dr. Stephen Amoah, the member of parliament for the Nhyiaeso Constituency, is accused of drawing his weapon in self-defense.
According to reports, the young people were asking for updates on the progress of an Astroturf field that their MP was building nearby.
According to Luv Fm sources, a large number of voters, including party members, brought toy weapons to the MP's campaign grounds, where they were occasionally fired into the air and cheered.
The young people of Atasomanso confronted Dr. Stephen Amoah, the MP and Deputy Finance Minister, demanding information regarding the Astroturf facility's completion.
Jimmy Boakye Ansah, the NPP spokesperson for the Nhyiaeso Constituency, acknowledged the event and clarified that the MP had to defend himself after the youth confronted him.
The MP was taken by surprise. He gave them some money after they had a fruitful conversation. He clarified, "The person who pulled the toy gun did it on Dr. Amoah's blind side."
In Kumasi, many young people are using toy firearms for recreational purposes, making it a popular trend.
According to a news release from the Ghana Police Service, the public, especially young people, should "avoid this act as it constitutes the offence of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace contrary to section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) among others."
The announcement comes after 26 people were arrested for indiscriminately brandishing and shooting fake firearms in a public area.
