Nine Radio Stations Shut Down by NCA for Regulatory Violations

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has closed nine radio stations in Ghana for failing to comply with broadcasting regulations after a 30-day grace period granted by the president. Sam George shared this update on his official Facebook page on August 12, 2025.

The crackdown follows President John Dramani Mahama’s one-month amnesty allowing non-compliant stations to rectify breaches of FM broadcasting laws. However, six stations did not meet the regulatory standards by the deadline.

The affected stations are:

Donplus Multimedia Limited (105.9 FM, Ho)

Dreams Ghana Media Limited (104.9 FM, New Abirem)

Jam Multimedia Limited (101.3 FM, Kintampo)

Jewel Group Limited (102.7 FM, Duayaw Nkwanta)

Kpandai Star Community Radio (107.3 FM, Kpandai)

Unique Gateway Communication Limited (105.7 FM, Nkawkaw)

Furthermore, three stations owned by Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited were suspended for operating without valid Certificates of Compliance. These include 95.9 FM (Accra) and two 101.3 FM stations (Kumasi and Takoradi), breaching Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011.

The NCA stated that while many stations rectified their violations during the grace period, the suspended broadcasters failed to resolve key issues, such as illegal use of transmission frequencies and unapproved transmitter sites.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing broadcasting laws and ensuring all licensed operators adhere to regulatory standards. This move underscores Ghana’s efforts to maintain discipline in the radio sector while promoting compliance nationwide.
