"Obuasi Youth Shot by the Military Won't Get Justice Because It Is Spiritual"- Ajagurajah

In the aftermath of a sad confrontation in Obuasi that resulted in the deaths of nine people during a skirmish between the Ghana Armed Forces and local youth, Prophet Ajagurajah expressed doubts about the possibility of justice being served. On January 22, 2025, Bishop Kwabena Asiamah, leader of the Ajagurajah movement, posted a video on social media claiming that those guilty for the deaths are unlikely to face justice.

Ajagurajah underlined the spiritual aspects of the affair, implying that AngloGold Ashanti, the mining corporation involved, would most likely pay cash compensation to the victims' families without performing extensive investigations. He remarked, "Gold requires blood, and the leaders of AngloGold Ashanti have shielded themselves, but they are not doing what is necessary. So, the spirit in that mining environment will simply possess the young lads, causing a conflict... So what is happening in Obuasi is spiritual, and it will continue indefinitely."

He further prophesied that the problem will remain unsolved in two years, with justice eluding the slain teenagers. To avoid future confrontations, Ajagurajah advised that AngloGold Ashanti officials make annual sacrifices to pacify the spirits associated with the mining site. "There should be an annual sacrifice." Each year, at least ten cows should be killed to prevent such events, as gold requires blood. If this is not done, the spirits will control the youngsters, causing further fights with military forces," he warned.

These words have sparked debate regarding the relationship between spiritual beliefs and corporate obligations in mining-affected communities.
