A late-night taxi ride turned violent on the Accra-Weija highway, leading to an arrest and national outcry. According to eyewitness videos, a female passenger argued with the driver of a red taxi at the Tetegu Overhead around 11:16 p.m. Monday before allegedly shooting him in the rib and shoulder.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was struck by a vehicle. An angry crowd gathered before police quickly made an arrest. While officials have not confirmed her identity or a motive, several Ghanaian news sites have named the suspect as Corporal Gifty Oppong of the police Surveillance Unit. Many speculate the incident was a robbery gone wrong.

The case has ignited fierce online debate, with many Ghanaians pointing to the incident as proof of the urgent need for tougher gun control, highlighting the persistent problem of illegal firearms despite existing regulations.
