According to a report by GHOne TV today, a police car was engaged in a road accident on Ghana's N1 Highway while chasing suspected gangsters.
The event began on the morning of January 10, 2025, when officers in a patrol car attempted to catch a group of armed criminals suspected of committing multiple robberies in the region.
According to eyewitnesses, the police vehicle was rushing down the highway, following a car suspected of carrying gang members.
During the pursuit, the police vehicle lost control and drove off the road, colliding with a nearby barrier.
The truck was severely damaged, but fortunately, the officers inside escaped with minimal injuries.
"We were on our way to work when we noticed the police car speeding and pursuing another vehicle. "Suddenly, there was a loud bang, and the police vehicle veered off the road," said Nana Kofi, a witness to the collision.
"It was a scary moment, but we were relieved to see the officers get out of the car, even though they looked shaken." Despite the turmoil, the alleged criminals were able to flee. Despite the accident, authorities have assured the public that they will continue to pursue the offenders.
"The officers responded to a tip about a gang operating in the neighborhood. "While we regret the accident, the public's safety remains our top priority," stated Police spokesman ACP Akua Boateng. "We are doing everything we can to bring the suspects to justice."
Many members of the neighborhood have expressed alarm about the rising incidence of robberies in the region, and the incident has spurred renewed debate about the safety of road pursuits. Some citizens believe that high-speed chases harm other cars, while others appreciate the police's activities in catching dangerous criminals.
"We understand that the police need to catch these criminals, but we also want to feel safe on the roads," said Kwame Asamoah, a concerned resident. The police have agreed to examine the accident and revise their chase methods to ensure that future pursuits do not endanger the public. The search for the gangsters continues, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
