Police officers allegedly shot three dead in Acherensua.

Three people have reportedly been shot dead by police personnel in Acherensua, Ahafo Region.

The deceased were among eight people who allegedly traveled to the Newmont Ahafo South mines to engage in illicit mining (galamsey) activities.

The incident occurred about 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when the gang attempted to run after sighting the police officers.

According to reports, the police pursued them and opened fire indiscriminately, killing three people. Five others were shot and are being treated.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited into St. Elizabeth Hospital's mortuary.

In response to the killings, the youth of Acherensua have come to the streets to protest, blocking main routes and demanding justice for the victims.
