Computer tablets and accessories have been sent to two more senior high schools (SHS) in the Ashanti Region.
President Nana Akufo-Addo introduced the government's One Student One Tablet program in March, and this is a component of it.
With this most recent distribution, there are now 18 senior high and TVET schools in the region that are beneficiaries of the first phase rollout.
Members of the parliament's education committee have expressed worry over the delay in distributing the tablets to kids, even though some schools have already received them.
While Konongo Odumase Senior High School received 4,256 tablets and accessories, Asanteman Senior High School in Kumasi verified that they had received 4,404 devices.
Although student distribution of the tablets has not yet begun, sixteen additional schools in the area have acknowledged getting them.
Speaking anonymously, school officials said that after the admissions procedures for first-year students in the 2024–2025 academic year are over, the tablets will probably be fully distributed and used.
This distribution is a significant step toward the initiative's full implementation, which intends to digitize Ghanaian education as the nation seizes the Fourth Industrial Revolution's potential.
Students will be able to access textbooks and other educational resources on the tablets to help them with their studies.
The government is working through the Education Ministry to turn public senior high schools' current facilities into Smart Schools, with plans to construct new buildings where needed. These facilities will include classrooms with computers, internet access, and digital technologies like Smart Boards to improve digital learning.
