President Mahama nominates the first batch of regional ministers.

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama submitted a list of Regional Minister nominees to Parliament for approval. These appointments are consistent with his government's aim of ensuring good governance and development across the regions.




The nominees come from a variety of professional disciplines, including education, law, public service, healthcare, and business, assuring a varied set of skills to handle regional concerns. If authorized by Parliament, the nominated persons would be expected to work toward promoting their particular regions' developmental goals. Nominees include:

Dr. Frank Amoakohene (Ashanti Region): A medical professional and youth leader with a strong background in healthcare and governance.

Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey (North-East Region): An experienced local governance practitioner, educator, and advocate for women’s empowerment.

John Kwadwo Gyapong (Oti Region): A business executive and former MP with a solid background in education and public service.

Ali Adolf John (Northern Region): A seasoned educator and current NDC Regional Chairman.

James Gunu (Volta Region): A veteran media practitioner and former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).


Akamugri Donatus Atanga (Upper East Region): An expert in human rights and education with significant experience in public service.

Charity Gardiner (Ahafo Region): A human resource professional and advocate for girl-child education.

Salisu Be-Awuribe (Savannah Region): A law lecturer and development expert with legal and valuation expertise.

Linda Ocloo (Greater Accra Region): A sitting MP with financial management expertise.

Ibrahim Tia (North-East Region): A public health and local government professional with experience in health financing.

According to John Mahama, these nominees reflect a commitment to diversity and competence. Parliament’s approval will enable them to contribute effectively to national development.
